Small Daily Things to Make You Feel Happy

This morning I woke up at 6 a.m. feeling like a messed up rabbit going down the hole because I only slept for around three and a half hours the night before. I went downstairs to the kitchen, took coffee mug from the cabinet and did my morning ritual – brewing dark-roasted Jamaican and sipping it while checking my phone for any social media and e-mail notifications. I love coffee in the morning but surprisingly this morning it seemed like I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I usually do. Then, I started to blame everything – my bad decision for doing Gossip Girl marathon until super late, empty milk cartoon so I couldn’t make warm milk that helps me sleep better, the list goes on.

Then I stumbled on one quotes from someone named Cynthia Ozick that this stranger posted on the internet while I scrolled through this blog post, saying “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude”. And then I went silent for a split second, took a deep breath, and decided to write this post about small daily things that can actually make us happy in order to improve my mood that can guarantee myself to go through every spaz that today might throw. And while we cannot control what other people do to please us, we can help by creating that good vibe from ourselves with hope that it will radiate and help changing the bad situations around us that make us unhappy. And these are the things that work for me to keep making me happy and I hope the list can inspire you to find simple things that give you daily dose of happiness.

- Putting on some music. After my coffee mug was half empty, I got off from the stool and started to put on some music. Music works like magic when it comes to fix your moods up so give it a try. I jammed hard to Flight Facilities tune and started to work on this post.

- Doing something that you like. In my case, writing can always put my mind on ease, so whenever you feel down or upset, do something that you like. It can be singing, reading, painting, hitting to the cinema or karaoke bar, whatever.

- Going outside. I love traveling and I love to stay close to nature whenever I travel even if it’s in a big hustle and bustle city. I always look for some places where I can go off the beaten path to just enjoy the surroundings and meditate.

- Eating healthy, working out, and living well. And no, I’m not talking about getting those beach bums and hitting the gym eight days in a week. No. I’m talking about how to build an acceptance in you physically because trust me it will give a great impact for you mentally that can make you truly happy.

- Learning something new. I am currently taking a Spanish lesson from one of beautiful souls I met while I was traveling just because I love how it sounds like. Learning something new can make you develop yourself and discover gifts and talents that you have.

- Splurging on something that you want and deserve. You want those new pairs of sneakers? Traveling somewhere exotic with your best friends? Go ahead, after long time of saving money and struggling on life, you really deserve it. Just remember, live fully and no regrets.

- Making plans. People who are close to me will know that I’m slightly obsessed with writing all of things I want to do on my notebook that I bring everywhere. This is one of the things that actually make me feel viable and excited waking up every morning. Because I have something that I can look up to, plans that I have to cross. And this makes me happy when I got to execute every plan I wrote so maybe it will work for you too.

- Petting your (or someone else’s) pets. Oh the glorious four-legged fully friends that either barking or meowing. It is scientifically proven that cats’ purr can calm your mind and playing with dogs can cure your anxiety.

Helping others. It is no secret and I think one of the most absolute common sense that seeing others happy makes us happy, too. Happiness is contagious, that is why I am writing this post so I can help you all by spreading my simple daily key of happiness.

- Crying and letting go. This is the final step and is the most important. Happiness is not a ‘thing’ that you can look for. Happiness is a state of mind, therefore it comes from your deep mind and self. Cute huskies and good books can’t make you happy if you choose to wallow yourself with sadness. This life is simple, let go of what makes you unhappy and take a grip on what makes you happy.
