Organic Foods in Jakarta
At the moment, I am residing in Jakarta though I travel
occasionally to somewhere new and live here and there every one time or so, and
here I am telling you that trying to live healthy and pursue healthy lifestyle
are not the easiest things to do around here. It also can be tricky to find
people with the same mindset of you here but it’s definitely not something
impossible to achieve! After few research and going around the city, here I
compile for you some of go-to spots for organic foods in Jakarta. I’m not
talking about restaurants only but also organic stores and supermarkets to
supply your kitchen drawers with something extra healthy. While most of the
organic places are not the cheapest to go to, but at least it is a good start
that will drive for good long-term results for you so think of it as long-term
investment for your body. No more too much sugar, salt, or spiciness. Check the
list out!
Supermarket
- Papaya Supermarket
This Japanese supermarket serves you all
the finest daily products from meats to vegetables for your daily needs. I
usually am being disapproval for taking fast foods while maintaining organic
lifestyle but this supermarket has special section of healthy snacks corner
that you can grab when you’re in a rush (talking about munching a tasty go-to
cereal!).
- Ranch Market
I love to cook whenever I have time because
most of the foods that you buy in Jakarta have additional ingredients that,
plainly said, are not good for your body (thinking of that tasty ‘Nasi Padang’
you’re always drooling over every lunch time?). Ranch Market is one of my go-to
supermarkets whenever I want to buy fresh vegetables and fruits. Still thinking
of those ‘beef rendang’ or ‘chicken satay’ from traditional street foods
vendors? Worry not, you can actually print out recipes for all those local
dishes and show it to the workers here and they will happily helping you to
pick fresh organic ingredients so you can make it by yourself at home with all
good scraps.
Restaurant
- Burgreens
It is very rare to find healthy and
sustainable restaurants in Jakarta and I give special trophy for this one who’s
brave enough to break through society’s mindset full of oily and greasy fast
foods as their mostly to-go meals in every day’s busiest hours. This restaurant
serves vegetarian foods, and while I’m not a full-time plant eater, I can still
enjoy their menus because they simply taste sinfully good!
Burgreen’s mission is to make healthy and
more sustainable foods delicious, fun, easy, and convenient for everyone. All
of their menus are handcrafted from organic or local and natural plant-based
ingredients; yet satisfying for your taste buds in a way you wouldn’t imagine
healthy foods could!
From The Web
This is one of my most favorite to-go sites
online for finest, natural, organic products. They have commitment to support
local communities and create a sustainable green economy without degrading our
environment by reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. They
also have bunch of articles and tutorials if you want to know more about
sustainable daily products. Few of my favorite products of theirs are raw cocoa
nibs, raw coconut oil, and of course bunch of healthy munchies like almond
cranberry and almond honey.
